Issues & Political Concerns

Where I Stand on Wages

I will fight to make sure that all childcare and school staff members receive a living wage. The people who work and care for our children deserve to be paid in a way that reflects the tremendous responsibility they bear.

My Crisis Plan

We are in crisis and we need to balance economic recovery and public health. To do that, I will advocate for forming a team of medical, public health, and business experts to work together to come up with a safe, realistic plan that allows our local businesses to do business while ensuring the health and safety of employees and the public.

This pandemic is constantly changing as are the circumstances around it. This is not a time for big egos or “I have the best plan” arguments. We need to form an agile team of experts who will be able to respond appropriately as information and conditions change. There is no one size fits all plan for Covid 19. The key to not only surviving it, but thriving within it, is to work together and be willing to pivot.

What I’m Most Passionate About

I spent a decade fighting to get a diagnosis, proper healthcare, and an individualized education plan for my son with special needs. Over and over, I was told that his development and behaviors were “normal,” but I knew something was not quite right. So, I decided to become my own advocate.

I attended legislative sessions. They said they couldn’t help me. I contemplated moving to Montana, so I could get the waiver required to qualify for Medicaid and the services my son so desperately needed.

Then I realized I didn’t need to leave the state I love. I needed a seat at the table.

So, I decided to run for office.

As you may have heard, last February, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem enjoined North Dakota in multi-state litigation to have the ACA declared unconstitutional. You may have also heard that a group of North Dakotans have joined together to petition a South Central District Judge for a Writ of Mandamus to force Stenehjem to back away from the case on the ground that he failed to file the necessary legal requirements.

I am one of the petitioners.

When someone threatens the ACA, they threaten my son. I will never stop fighting to protect people with preexisting conditions. Providing accessible, affordable, quality healthcare to all North Dakotans is what I’m most passionate about.
